HI,
I have a question for anyone who plays DVDs on their computers, using jaws. How do you navigate around menus on the DVD so you can play them. Normally you click on the choice with the mouse, which doesn't work with jaws. This is actually for the wife, who got some shows on disk and all the shows have to be selected from a menu, or the Play All choice is selected to play them all one after the other. Media player is the player used here. Usually the Play All selection is the first choice in the menu. jONe one of the shows it's the last choice. Arrowing up or down down doesn't do anything.
Someone suggested ripping a copy, and burning it to another disk or just keep it on the hard drive and select the file. We tried that only to have it just play random portions of the files which is no good. How do you all with screen readers work around this. One of the shows, "Good Times" has flash when you first pop in the disk, and we have to figure out how to get past it.
For me with partial sight, it's not a big deal to use what ever, but for my wife who has to rely totally on Jaws, it's no fun to have to rely on me to always start the disk. Windows media lets her pause until she wants to continue. Any help would be appreciated.
I use a program called Power DVD. It works just fine for the sort of thing that you described. You just use the context menu to bring up the menu, then you select the go to option. It's pretty easy to work out. Usually DVD's like that have the shows sorted into titles, so you have to go into the title menu. The shows are called title 1, title 2, ETC.
I use that same program on my laptop and so far it is the best I've heard of for blind folks.
There's one program on this machine that came with it which seems to do a good job. I'm not sure where it can be had, but it's Intervideo Win DVD Player. All you do once it comes up is hit the B key and you'll get the whole menu. Hitting a T while a movie is playing will give you titles, and hitting a C will give you chapters. Hitting an A gives you the Audio menu if there is one. This of course depends on the DVD and where exactly the title and chapter memus pop up. I've go some budget-priced ones from Fox where you ahve to wait until after the Fox promotional video until you can access the title menu and such.
Hmmm I don't have a DVD player on my computer, but I'm sure some day I will ,and because of that, I'm going to ask where to get thi Power DVD? Or does it come with Windows XP Machines? Caitlin
I wonder how much a DVD drive for a computer costs compared to one you'd hook up to your TV set?
Not sure about the prices, but power DVD came with my DVD rom.
